Services

He Saw
He provides carpentry services both on site and in his shop. He prefers small to medium size jobs, so though there is no job too small, there are jobs that are too big. The joy of bringing a home back to its earlier glory or helping to find and realize its full potential is why he does what he does. He has a passion for houses and recognizes that each one is someone’s home, so he treats each as if it were his own.
He specializes in repair and restoration of both the interior and exterior of the older homes in the greater Ballard, Greenwood and Phinney area. Oftentimes the exterior of these homes need attention due to the years of exposure to the northwest weather. Typical projects include replacing deteriorated siding and architectural moldings, repairing or replacing doors and windows, and repairing water damage from frame to finish. The interior of the housing stock in these neighborhoods is often something to marvel at. Unfortunately, some otherwise well-done “remodels” fall short on the finish carpentry details. Whether restoring damaged trim, or adding replications to new work, He has the passion and the skill to seamlessly marry the old with the new.
In his backyard shop he can build custom cabinets, alter existing cabinets, and pre-finish doors and moldings, as well as mill custom elements. Small additions, rehabbing a detached garage or other out building, decks and stairs are all projects to which he is well suited. Kitchen and bath remodels or completing unfinished areas of the home also fit well with his experience.

Her Paint
Her phone rings often for requests for exterior painting but she doesn’t paint outside. She does offer referrals for exterior painters. Her strength is an innate color sense. Helping homeowners with choosing color is what separates her from many. Her patience and deep interest for how color can transform a space allows her to stay involved in the sometimes frustrating task of bringing a homeowner’s vision to reality.
Color selection – There are several approaches to helping a customer choose the right color. There are consultants that enter the home look around at what to match paint to and specify colors then their work is done. Abby involves the homeowner in the process and finds out what the vision is, if any, and educates about color along the way. Working with the customer to find the right color for them involves many consideration including:
Hue – Which general color you choose
Value – How dark or light the color should be
Saturation – How bright (raw) or muted a color might be
Not only are there the three attributes above that change how a color looks. There is the consideration of all other objects in the room that relate to this color. Everything has a color. Balance of warms and cools, darks and light need to be considered when adding color to a room.
Her paint uses universal tint to adjust the color of the paint during the color selection process. This saves the customer from buying quart after quart of the wrong color and also creates less waste for the planet.
Decorative finishes – Texture might enhance the overall feel of a room. There are several different decorative treatments that involve the layering of paint to create an overall atmosphere to a room. Often times the walls can become the artwork.
Color wash – a somewhat transparent layer of paint rubbed over a base color to give the walls a soft feel.
Glaze treatment – Similar to a color wash, a glaze has a smoother appearance and is slightly more formal and subtle.
Ragged finish – Using rags to layer colors giving the walls a more textured yet overall solid look.
Patterned finishes (painted or troweled) – Instead of wallpaper which have seams, have limited color combinations and require stripping when updating a look, paint can be applied to create stripes or give the walls illusion that they are made of leather, denim, or stone.
Artwork on walls – Painted scenes inspired by favorite children’s stories can make a child’s room come to life!
He Saw Her Paint also provides contracting services for those moderate size jobs that involve hiring subcontractors for certain portions of the work. We manage the plumbers, the electricians and other specialty trades, as they are needed.
