Neighborhood & Environment

Neighborhood
Our family is a member of Woodland Park Presbyterian Church a church in our neighborhood with the tagline “an inclusive, socially active community of faith.” We invest our time, money and talents in this church to help contribute to our neighborhood through the work of the soup kitchen, community events such as the family Christmas sing-along, writing letters for Amnesty International, educational forums, and much more: www.WPPCSEATTLE.org
He Saw Her Paint is a business member of The Phinney Ridge Neighborhood Association. This organization has helped greatly to make the surrounding neighborhoods a fun and exciting place to live through classes, a farmers’ market, the winter craft fair, the home remodeling fair, the garden tour, networking with the Greenwood Senior Center and tons more. www.phinneycenter.org
He Saw Her Paint is a business member of the Phinney Greenwood Chamber of Commerce. This has been a wonderful place to meet with local business owners, get to know what is going on and participate in events right in our community, from cleaning up the neighborhood through the GAIN program to having fun at the Greenwood Parade. www.greenwood-phinney.com
We are inspired by many of the local businesses and organizations in our neighborhood who bring a social consciousness to their work. We are striving to be not just a business that earns money to live but a business that lives to fit into the local framework and contribute to this wonderful community of Greenwood and beyond.

Environment
As well being involved in our community, we make deliberate business decisions influenced by our concern for the environmental impact. Since we cannot avoid driving to our jobs and hauling our tools and supplies with us - we market, advertise and work as close to home as possible. One of our primary environmental business objectives is to replace our 1992 van with a more efficient vehicle that runs on an alternative fuel source.
Breathing new life into old things
On the job, we take the time to recycle what we can. During a demolition, we separate out clean wood and any metal. These materials can be recycled. Items such as hardware, windows, doors and cabinets are taken to the Re-store or placed in front of our house labeled with a “free” sign under a tree that we now fondly call - the free tree.
We often buy paint that has been mixed to the wrong color (called mis-tints). Adding colorant called universal tint to these formerly cast off colors allows us to create custom colors. Knowing which colorants and how much to add comes from years of experience – no computer needed here! Being able to tint colors on site allows the color to be made responding to the environment it is intended for. This saves trips back and fourth from the job site to paint store. What was once of little value can be made valuable again. You can even name your color!
